Frequently Asked Questions The following are some Frequently Asked Questions about Orange Slices magazine answered by the editor DARREN BUGG. If you have a question, please email it to him by clicking here.
The name Orange Slices was inspired by the song 'Take Me', which is on the 1989 Bizarro album ("And can you really have stayed till three, orange slices and that Fall LP"). The idea originally came from a friend who said my new magazine should be named after a food because the Oasis fanzine was called 'Lasagne'. His suggestion was to call the magazine 'Apple Pie' (a reference to the song 'Kennedy'). However, I felt this was too obvious - and so I searched for another reference to food within Wedding Present song lyrics. The only one I could find was orange slices - and hence the magazine was born.
I have edited and published the magazine since the very first issue. I also designed the first four issues completely myself. Although not a designer by profession, I do have some DTP skills and these were enough to get us through the first four issues. The fifth, sixth and seventh issues were designed by myself with the assistance of Ian Cheeseright, a professional graphic designer who helped to take the magazine to a higher standard than I could manage with my limited skills. The next logical step was to let Ian take over the whole design process and he was completely in charge of designing Issue 8 and Issue 9. His design skills have now taken the magazine to a much higher level of professionalism and have allowed me to concentrate on writing, editing and publishing the magazine.
The magazine is written by a small core team of writers along with many extra occasional writers. The most prolific of our writers over the years have been Leigh Hunt and Edward Komocki. The Wedding Present bass player Terry de Castro has also been very prolific in last few issues, writing tour diaries and a diary about the recording of Take Fountain. Louise Hume has also been a welcome recent addition to the writing team - contributing several articles in the last few issues. David Gedge himself has also written many articles over the years. Although I have myself tended to shy away from writing articles, I have contributed materials for every issue - and will continue to fill any empty space with my ramblings wherever necessary !!!
If any readers would like to contribute their own articles, please email Darren Bugg in the first instance with some information about your article idea. We are always on the look-out for new interesting materials - so don't be shy - get in touch !!!
